I recently visited the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas and was impressed by the design and architecture of the Center as well as the variety of plants. UT Austin students get free admission with a student ID, so it’s definitely worth the trip! It’s also a great venue for events like weddings since there’s a large open area for guests.
Even in the heat of the Texas summer, there were many different types of wildflowers. Pollinators such as bumblebees are abundant, but they’re not aggressive (even when I invade their space). One of my favorite things was walking through a small field of flowers and having butterflies scatter and fly all around me–such a simple but wonderful experience!
The Wildflower Center is a fun and educational place for families and kids, too. I’m a big fan of nature-based playscapes, and the Center has seamlessly integrated the play areas to fit their overall mission and aesthetic.
Also, be aware that you will likely get bitten by mosquitoes and/or other insects. I didn’t notice any while I was there but discovered several red bug bites the next day. This doesn’t bother me; however, some people have more severe reactions, so keep that in mind before visiting.
P.S. Don’t forget to get a picture at the unique butterfly seats 🙂
